All volunteers must fill out a waiver before participating in any Youth Volunteer Corps activities. A youth who attends a YVC project without a waiver may not be permitted to serve. Some agencies require a separate volunteer waiver, which will be provided prior to the project start. YVC's waiver can also be found here or PDF versions can be downloaded: English Version and Spanish Version

WHAT IS A TYPICAL PROJECT LIKE? Projects are supervised by a screened and trained program director. YVC volunteers join a team of their peers, ages 11 to 18, to volunteer their time and service to help local nonprofits and learn about issues in the Topeka community. Participants arrive around 10-15 minutes early and an icebreaker or team-builder activity starts each day of the YVC program. Volunteers are introduced to one another and the agency staff who provide instructions to the team. As service takes place, the program director will lead volunteers in service-learning activities, energizer games, and facilitate meaningful reflection. Our goal is to create service that is rewarding, challenging, and educational for youth. ARE LUNCH AND TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED? No. All youth are responsible for lunches and transportation to and from the event. Project location details will be provided at sign-up and confirmed with participants prior to events.
